Bills Offseason

Team News Wire
The Bills limped into this off season w/ another pitiful season(4-12) behind them. In looking back, Bills management recognized the problems of a woaful offense and a overworked defense. Bills management decided the lackadaisical offseason philosopy of previous seasons would not produce results, and set out to be aggessive and work to rebuild the once proud franchise in the land of Lake Erie snowstorms and the birthplace of the chicken-wing.

1st) the Bills realized that a team that gives up 52 sacks has 2 problems....1st..a QB that cannot recognize pressure...and 2nd...a line that cannot block....a poisonous combination...the Bills had Both....So...Exit JP Losman, Langson Walker and Derrick Dockery(Just like the real NFL).

Next...the Bills management reviewed a Draft class and soon realized Mark Sanchez would likely still be there when the bills selected 8th in the draft....But selecting a future marquis QB is no guarantee of success when you can't keep him upright(see problem #2 referenced above)...so bills management made aggressive moves with existing players to secure daft selections that would give them the opportunity to draft that Sanchize QB, AND build a offensive line that could both run AND Pass block.

To do so the Bills made sacrifices...1st, trading OLB Paul Pozluzny to KC for the #7 pick in the 1st round. Drafting @ 7 and 8 of 1st round almost assured that Franchise QB, and a strong possiblity of that long term fix for the revolving door referred to as the Bills RT Tackle position. The Bills also made this move, to block any lower drafting teams from trading UP with KC to be ahead of the bills in the Sanchize sweepstakes.

With that Kansas City trade completed, the Bills had their plans set for the 1st round.

Next the Bills turned to filling other holes on the Oline....In seasons past the Bills had attempted to use rotating guards for pass formations and run formations...In theory, getting high PB guys on the filed when passing, and high RB guys on the field while running....Good "in theory"...but lousy in reality. In reality that strategy resulted in a line that couldn't pass block when they need too...and couldn't run block....well...when they needed to run...

So, bills management made the deal w/ San Diego to send Lee Evans (and his 98 Speed) west, along with the second of our 2nd round draft picks to the Chargers. In return the bills obtained Jahari Jones, RG, who was young and played both run and pass effectively well... The trade also returned to the Bills Maques Colston, who w/ a ovr of 90 and @ age 27 was similar in overall skills to Lee Evans, but 3 years younger....

With the acquisition of J. Evans in the San Diego trade, the Bills sent former #2 draft pick, RG J. Grimes to Miami, for a #3 pick.

With trades completed, the Bills work on draft day was formidable...
-Draft a franchise QB
-Build and Offensive line
-refill on defense what you lost w/ the Pozluzny trade, and find future help @ DT

As the draft played out, Bills management was ecstatic....selecting RT Jason Smith in the 1st round gave the bills that guaranteed starter @ RT that plays both pass and run equally well.

Selecting Mark Sanchez with the second of our 1st round choices was a "no-brainer", and a pick not even real life Bills management could screw up.

The Bills second rd Pick, LG T. Vincent was the top rated LG, with impressive RB #'s and the high AWR #'s that leads us to believe of his ability to pick up improvement in the PB part of the game.

3rd round pick, Jason Williams, was one of the top rated ROLBs in the draft w/ solid overall #'s, strong AWR and speed to benifit in both the pass rush, and pass coverage parts of the game...Williams will be an immediate starter

The Bills final Draft selection, DT Perry, has solid overall #'s and we see as a long term replacement for aging veteran Walker. this season, we see him as a situational pass rusher.

The Bills will look @ the second phase of FA to fill in a last OT position and after that, are anxious to get the "new Look" Bills on the cyber field and fight back to respectability.
